Extras! -things it's useful to know

1)    Two lines are perpendicular if their gradient's multiply to make -1

                            e.g. y = 32x + 2 is perpendicular to y = -1/32x + 9

                            e.g. y = -21x + 7 is perpendicular to y = 1/21x + 3

2)    The "box and whisker" diagram

3)    Stem & Leaf diagrams

            1 , 3, 7 , 12 , 16 , 27 , 34 , 43 , 51 , 69 , 72

                        0  1 , 3 , 7

                        1  2 , 6

                        2  7

                        3  4

                        4  3

                        5  1

                        6  9

                        7  2

The advantage of this diagram is that each value is still there. The modal group is the one with the highest "bar" from left to right.

4)    Constructions

5)    Exterior angles

6)    Fractions arithmetic

To add fractions, make the denominators the same and then add the numerators

3/5 + 5/3 = 9/15 + 25/15 = 34/15

To subtract fractions, make the denominators the same and then subtract the numerators

5/7 - 1/2 = 10/14 - 7/14 = 3/14

To multiply fractions, multiply the numerators together and multiply the denominators together

5/7 x 8/11 = 40/77

To divide fractions, switch the numerator and denominator of the one you are dividing by and then multiply them

5/7 8/11 = 5/7 x 11/8 = 55/56

7)    Angles

8)    Metric/imperial conversions

    Length

    1 Inch = 2.5 cm

    1 cm = 0.4 Inch

    1 Foot = 30 cm

    1 Metre = 3 Feet, 3 Inches

    1 Metre = 1.1 Yards

    1 Mile = 1600 Metres

    1 Km = 0.6 Miles

    Weight

    1 Ounce = 28 g

    1 Pound = 450 g

    1 Stone = 6.4 kg

    1 kg = 2.2 lb

    Volume

    1 Gallon = 4.5 Litres

    1 Litre = 0.22 Gallons

    1 Litre = 1.75 Pints

    1 Pint = 0.6 Litres

    Area

    1 Hectare = 2.5 Acres
