Rearranging equations

Write "8x + t = 5y" in the form "x = ..."

Just rearrange the equation using the normal rules of algebra!

8x + t = 5y

8x = 5y - t

x = (5y - t)/8

However these questions are more difficult when the new subject appears twice

Whenever x appears twice, always factorise

Factorisation is the only way from x being written twice to once

ax = bx + c

gather all the x terms onto one side

ax - bx = c

FACTORISE!

x(a-b) = c

x = c/a-b
